About Benjamin Ragland
Biography coming soon...My name is Benjamin Ragland (I like being called Benny by my friends). I was born an artist! Art of any kind has always come easy for me. I won a first place in a "Keep Virginia Green" poster contest when I was in the 3rd grade at 8 years old. I also won first place in the state (Virginia). I received a lot of encouragement as I was going through school so I attended Holden School of Art and Design in Charlottesville, VA, where I received a Graphic Arts Management Certificate in 1973. Right out of art school I went to work for an advertising agency. I was drafted a year later so I joined the US Navy were I was an Illustrator/ Draftsman for the next 3 years. After an Honorable discharge I attended Virginia Commonwealth University were I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Communication Arts and Design in 1981. I have worked as an illustrator for a nationally syndicated newspaper feature, as well as type setting companies and art shops. Most of all I free lanced. I have completed over 1,000 portraits in various mediums from stipple (pen and ink), oils, and pastels. I have done murals on ceilings, floors, and walls in business, private homes, and churches. I have taught art lessons in community colleges, children classes, adult community art lessons, and private lessons. Now that I'm retired I spend most of my days drawing. I'm currently working on a series of pen and ink drawings using the stipple method. I now live in Lake City, FL with my beautiful wife Bonnie. My work is currently on display at The Gateway Art Gallery in Lake City, FL.
